Carlo Ancelotti Confirms Neymar Will Start for Brazil in Crucial Scotland Clash

Brazil’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has officially confirmed that the Seleção’s all-time leading goalscorer, Neymar, is fully fit and will be called up for Wednesday’s high-stakes final World Cup group stage match against Scotland.

The 34-year-old Santos forward missed Brazil’s opening Group G fixtures against Haiti and Morocco while completing his rehabilitation from a stubborn calf injury, but has now successfully integrated back into full-squad tactical training sessions.

Neymar’s highly anticipated return marks the end of a grueling international hiatus. The talismanic forward has not featured for the national team since October 2023, when he suffered a catastrophic torn ACL and meniscus in his left knee during a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay.

After a lengthy 369-day recovery process, a brief return for Al-Hilal, and a subsequent meniscus surgery after transferring back to his boyhood club Santos, Neymar managed to rebuild his match rhythm in early 2026 to secure his spot in Ancelotti's final 26-man World Cup roster.

While several sports analysts have criticized Ancelotti for occupying a roster slot with a recently sidelined veteran, many football minds believe his deep tournament intelligence will prove invaluable.

Speaking with reporters, Eagle Stars FC coach Isma’il Musa insisted that Neymar's winning mentality, creativity, and leadership will elevate the younger crop of attackers in the squad.

Lagos-based sports journalist Femi Fabunmi echoed this optimism, noting that despite recurring physical setbacks, Neymar remains a consummate team player whose unique tactical skills will provide a major offensive spark to guarantee a smooth path into the knockout phases.
