APC Dominates Grassroots Polls, Secures All Chairmanship and Councillorship Positions Across Gombe State
Following the conclusion of the local government council elections in Gombe State, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved a landslide sweep, winning all 24 chairmanship seats and all 240 councillorship positions.
The Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC), Abdullahi Garba Talase, officially announced the clean sweep after the final collation of results.
Moving across 114 traditional wards and nearly 3,000 polling units, the election marked a significant political milestone for the state, rolling out under peaceful conditions verified by independent civil society groups and regional election observers.
The Structural Shift: Explaining Gombe's New Administrative Layout
The election served as a landmark test for Gombe’s freshly expanded local governance structure. To deepen development and increase administrative proximity to rural communities, the state transitioned from its previous layout to an expanded blueprint utilizing Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
Contest Mechanics: Candidate Spread and Multi-Party Realities
While six political parties presented candidates for the chairmanship races across the state, the final results indicated that smaller platforms concentrated their resources on select strongholds rather than field statewide tickets.
