An Ekiti State High Court has officially sentenced two notorious kidnappers, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, to death by hanging following their conviction for the violent abduction of a female staff member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The landmark ruling was delivered by the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, who found both men guilty of orchestrating the April 22, 2022, kidnapping of Omoboade Adesina.
Conversely, the third defendant in the high-profile security case, Usman Abubakar, was completely discharged and acquitted by the court due to a lack of sufficient, incriminating evidence linking him directly to the crime scene.
The successful prosecution was spearheaded by legal operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), who arrested the criminals following the initial incident.
While delivering the final judgment, Justice Ogunmoye highly commended the thoroughness and diligence of the DSS legal team in proving the heavy criminal charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Chief Judge specifically highlighted the flawless execution of the formal identification parade conducted by the security service, as well as the advanced forensic analysis of call data records during the intelligence phase, as the critical components that legally solidified the conviction.
"The conviction marks yet another major courtroom victory for the DSS, coming on the heels of a death sentence handed down by a Sokoto High Court against three men convicted of terrorism and cross-border arms proliferation," legal analysts noted.
This major legal victory adds to a growing string of successful judicial outcomes secured by the intelligence agency across Nigeria.
It closely follows recent death sentences handed down against three international arms traffickers in Sokoto State and another high-profile kidnapping conviction obtained in Kogi State.
Security experts state that these consecutive courtroom victories strongly validate the DSS’s modern, intelligence-driven approach to tracking, investigating, and prosecuting violent crimes, sending a stern warning to syndicates across the nation.
