The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has stepped forward to clarify recent high-profile comments made by United States defense officials regarding the neutralization of 199 jihadist militants and the subsequent recovery of massive ISIS-linked electronic assets.
According to the military high command, the statements do not outline a fresh or uncoordinated unilateral foreign raid on Nigerian soil. Instead, they represent the official declassification of tactical details from a highly successful, previously executed joint Nigeria–US counterterrorism operation conducted across the region in May 2026.
Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, emphasized that the milestones of the operation had already been factored into previous public updates issued by Nigerian security forces.

He explained that the newly shared details—including the scale of the electronic intelligence haul highlighted by US Senior Director for Counterterrorism Dr. Sebastian Gorka—simply reflect standard post-operation classification lifecycles being updated by Washington allies.
“This is not a new operation. We have previously communicated our highly successful joint operations in May. What you are hearing are some declassified information concerning our previous operation being given out now.
However, Nigeria-US joint operations and collaboration are very much on course,” Major General Samaila Uba stated during the press briefing.
The DHQ reaffirmed that operational synergy between the two nations remains robust under the auspices of the Joint Working Group on Security, which was established following high-level bilateral engagements in late 2025.
Dr. Gorka had earlier described the May operation as a massive blow to transnational networks exploiting ungoverned territories in the Sahel, revealing that experts are currently analyzing the captured electronics to unpack how ISIS factions coordinate their logistics.
The DHQ assured the public that joint monitoring and preventative sweeps are continuously being executed to deny extremist elements any breathing room.
