In a major move to restore public trust, the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the transfer of over 1,300 personnel away from the Delta State Command.
The massive redeployment follows a national outcry over the alleged extrajudicial killing of a civilian, Oghenermine Mena, by a now-dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Usman Nuhu.
Force Headquarters spokesperson, Tony Placid, revealed that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) was deeply unsettled by reports of unprofessional conduct and the "excesses of deviant officers" within the command.
The transfer affects various ranks and divisions, marking one of the largest internal reshuffles in recent history. “The redeployment is being viewed as part of efforts to restore public confidence and ease tensions,” Placid noted.

According to Qubes Magazine, the case file regarding Mena’s death has been forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Justice for review by the Attorney-General’s office.
While an autopsy has been completed, the details remain undisclosed as legal proceedings begin.
The large-scale transfer is seen as a direct response to persistent complaints from Delta State residents regarding police harassment and misconduct.
