The Nigeria Police Force has successfully arrested and repatriated a Chinese national, Xu Qing, who is wanted in his home country for orchestrating a massive $245 million Ponzi scheme.
The operation was executed by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja following a formal request from Beijing authorities.
Xu Qing reportedly fled China on November 5, 2024, to evade arrest for the illegal absorption of public deposits.
After months of tracking, INTERPOL operatives located the fugitive on April 24, 2026, hiding at a factory in Olowotedo, Siun Village, within the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Force Spokesman Anthony Placid confirmed that Xu was repatriated to China on April 28, 2026, under bilateral police cooperation agreements.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu reiterated that Nigeria will not be a "safe haven" for international fugitives.
According to Qubes Magazine, this high-profile arrest highlights the increasing collaboration between Nigerian and Chinese security agencies.
The IGP also urged Nigerian business owners to conduct thorough background checks and police clearance before employing foreign nationals to prevent harboring criminals.
