The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have sounded an urgent alarm over the deteriorating financial health of the sector, reporting a staggering loss of ₦150 billion within the last two months.
Roland Iyayi, a member of the AON Board of Trustees, warned that domestic carriers are nearing a "breaking point."
The crisis is exacerbated by a standoff with the Aviation Ground Handling Association of Nigeria (AGHAN), which has issued a seven-day ultimatum over ₦9 billion in outstanding debts.
AGHAN Chairman Olaniyi Adigun stated that members are considering a total withdrawal of services, which would effectively ground all domestic flights.
Industry experts warn that the collapse of the airlines would trigger a national economic "uproar," calling for immediate government intervention and dialogue.
