Panic has gripped the Fan District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State after gunmen opened fire on mourners during a mass burial on Wednesday.
The victims had gathered to bury seven persons killed in a previous assault when the attackers emerged from surrounding hills, shooting indiscriminately.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene where mourners were forced to abandon their tools and flee for safety.

Journalist Masara Kim, who narrowly escaped the attack, reported that at least one person was confirmed dead during the scramble.
“We had barely dug a shallow grave when the attackers struck,” Kim recounted. Local youth leaders also alleged the widespread destruction of farmlands in the Kassa area, suggesting a coordinated effort to displace the community.
According to Qubes Magazine, this incident is part of a series of simultaneous assaults on at least five communities south of Jos.
Residents have expressed frustration over the perceived inadequacy of security presence despite repeated government assurances.
Efforts to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer for an official casualty figure were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
