A Federal High Court in Abuja has viewed a video recording featuring Sheikh Abdulkadir Sani, an Islamic cleric standing trial for an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In the recording played during Monday’s proceedings, Sani claimed he was approached for spiritual guidance but warned the conspirators that their mission would fail and lead to betrayal.
Sani is among six defendants—including retired Maj-Gen Mohammed Ibrahim Gana and Navy Capt Erasmus Ochegobia Victor—facing 13 charges ranging from treason to terrorism.

The prosecution, led by Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), alleges the group planned to attack the Presidential Villa and detain top officials using over 32 covert vehicles.
While Sani admitted receiving money, he insisted the funds were strictly for "prayers and charity" rather than supporting an illegal takeover.
According to Qubes Magazine, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik has ordered a joint trial-within-trial to address defense claims that the suspects' statements were obtained through coercion and torture.
Defense lawyers, including several senior advocates of Nigeria, argue that the interrogation violated the Anti-Torture Act.
The court has adjourned until May 12, 2026, to determine the voluntariness of the evidence.
