Anambra State Police arrest Eric Nwombu for fake JAMB coordination and exam fraud


Fake JAMB Coordinator Apprehended in Anambra Under 'Safe School Initiative'


Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested one Eric Nwombu for allegedly impersonating a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) official. 


The arrest was made on Saturday in Atani as part of the Inspector-General of Police’s "Safe School Initiative."

Nwombu was caught at a cyber cafe while collecting 2026 JAMB examination slips from unsuspecting students. 


Suspicious of his claims that he was the "JAMB Coordinator for Atani," staff at the computer center alerted the police. Upon seeing the operatives, the suspect attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.


Recovered items include:


Eight JAMB examination slips.


An exercise book containing names and examination numbers of various students.



Anambra State Police Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the suspect could not satisfactorily account for the materials. 


The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reiterated the command's commitment to protecting the integrity of public exams and urged the public to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be an exam official.
