Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has thrown down the gauntlet to aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he and his allies are fully prepared should the Taminu Turaki-led faction decide to approach the Supreme Court.
Wike issued the challenge on Monday following his faction's comprehensive legal victory at the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The appellate court dismissed nine appeals brought before it by the Makinde-backed Turaki faction, dealing a significant blow to the opposing camp.
DAILY POST reports that the Court of Appeal also upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which on October 31, 2025, had restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcome of the 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Speaking after the court session, a triumphant Wike addressed the media, framing the legal victory as an opportunity for party reconciliation while warning against further litigation.
"Today's judgement is an opportunity for PDP to reconcile, but if they decide to go to the Supreme Court, it won't augur well for the party," Wike stated.
The FCT Minister did not mince words about his camp's readiness for any legal escalation. "If they insist on going to the Supreme Court, we'll be ready for them."
Wike also highlighted the financial implications of the legal battle for the opposing faction, revealing that each of the nine dismissed appeals carried a cost of N2 million against them.
"We won all nine appeals against them today in court, and each comes with N2m cost totalling N18m against them," he disclosed, seemingly taunting his rivals with the cumulative financial penalty.
The legal victories solidify Wike's position within the PDP power structure and represent a major setback for the Turaki faction, which has been locked in a protracted leadership battle with the Minister's camp. The dispute has divided the party ahead of future electoral contests.
Political analysts suggest that while Wike has left the door open for reconciliation, his combative rhetoric indicates little willingness to compromise with the opposing faction. His reference to the Supreme Court suggests he expects the legal battle to continue.
The PDP, Nigeria's main opposition party, has been plagued by internal divisions since the 2023 general elections. The ongoing crisis has raised concerns about the party's ability to present a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.
As both factions weigh their next moves, party stakeholders continue to call for dialogue and unity to prevent further damage to the PDP's electoral prospects.
