The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed concerns that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will struggle in the 2027 general elections in states currently governed by other parties.
Speaking at the 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Wike urged party members to contest with confidence regardless of their state's leadership.
Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, used the platform to take a swipe at Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other colleagues who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He argued that those who accused him of working for the ruling party have now fled, while he remains to rebuild the PDP.
As reported from the Abuja NEC meeting, Wike assured supporters that the upcoming national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2026, would proceed as planned despite internal friction.
Addressing the fears of electoral loss, Wike stated:
“Those afraid that they will not win elections because they don’t have a governor from the PDP in their state, that is a lie. Remove fear from your body and have confidence. We are ready to have sleepless nights to ensure the party succeeds.”
The Minister also emphasized a "sincere" reconciliation process, warning that the party would not entertain latecomers who only return to seek election tickets after the convention.
He maintained that his faction represents the "authentic" side of the party, focused on quality representation rather than mere numbers.
