The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is set to formally arraign the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, today, Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
The high-profile proceedings will take place at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, following weeks of intense pressure from constitutional rights groups and the former governor's family regarding his detention.
El-Rufai, along with an associate identified as Joel Adoga, faces a nine-count charge in suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.
According to a statement released by ICPC spokesperson John Odey, the charges specifically involve the illegal conversion and possession of public property, as well as significant money laundering allegations during his tenure as governor.
The anti-graft agency further revealed that a secondary case has been filed at the Kaduna State High Court.
This separate charge, KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, targets El-Rufai and Amadu Sule over alleged fraud, abuse of office, and conferring undue advantages.
“The suit with number FHC/KD/73/2026 has charges ranging from conversion of and possession of public property, to money laundering. The ICPC remains committed to due process and the rule of law in these proceedings,” the commission stated.
El-Rufai was originally detained by the EFCC in February 2026 before being transferred to ICPC custody.
The commission confirmed that the defendant has been duly served with the charges, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s massive ₦423 billion financial probe.
