Two Young Sisters Perish in Tragic Ondo House Fire; Police Launch Full Investigation
A devastating fire outbreak at Ode-Aye in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State has claimed the lives of two young siblings.
The victims, identified as six-year-old Queen Ohwo and four-year-old Everlyne Ohwo, died when fire razed their family residence at No. 1 Olaribigbe Street, Zion Area, on March 18, 2026.
The remains of the children were recovered by emergency responders and taken to a local health center, while their parents remain in a state of severe shock and trauma.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Ondo State Police Command through PPRO DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the authorities revealed that preliminary findings suggest the fire may have been caused by negligence during cooking activities.
Following the tragedy, Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal has ordered a "thorough and discreet investigation" to confirm the exact origin and circumstances of the blaze.
Officers have been instructed to collaborate with the Federal Fire Service to ensure a comprehensive report.
The Police Command used the medium to issue a stern warning to parents and guardians regarding fire safety.
CP Lawal emphasized the importance of never leaving cooking unattended and keeping flammable materials away from children.
The Command also acknowledged the strategic guidance of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu in maintaining professional standards and securing lives across the state during such difficult times.
