The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a Brazil-based Nigerian businessman, Uche Onyekwere, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport for allegedly concealing cocaine in his private parts and footwear.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi stated that the 47-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday during the clearance of a South African Airways flight from Brazil via Johannesburg, following actionable intelligence.
“When the 47-year-old suspect was taken for a full body scan, the result confirmed illicit drug concealment. As a result, he was subjected to a strip search, during which a big parcel of white powdery substance, which later tested positive for cocaine, was discovered wrapped around his right thigh,” Babafemi explained.
A total of 1.60 kilograms of cocaine was recovered from Onyekwere's body and the soles of his flat shoes. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to purchasing the drugs in Brazil to raise capital for his business and finance the naming ceremony of his newborn child.
The arrest was part of a broader NDLEA crackdown last week, which also included the interception of 1,183 kilograms of Canadian Loud cannabis at Tin Can Island Port hidden in two vehicles, and the arrest of three suspects transporting 2,735 kilograms of skunk and synthetic cannabis along the Abuja expressway.
