The Kwara State government has ordered the reopening of all schools previously shut down in the southern and northern parts of the state due to banditry threats. The directive, effective Monday, follows improved security after sustained military operations.
Commissioner for Education Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe announced the decision in a statement on Sunday, noting that “The government deems the situation now to be a lot better than it was before.” He added that vigilance will be maintained as security operations continue to neutralize threats and build community resilience.
School authorities have been notified of the resumption, which comes amid ongoing efforts to safeguard public spaces, including educational institutions.
In a related development, the Federal Government announced plans to arraign suspects linked to recent killings in Yelwata, Benue State, on Monday. The suspects will face charges before Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The Attorney General’s office stated the prosecution aims to “send a strong warning to all enemies of the country” and reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
