This trend underscores Nigeria’s escalating influence in the digital entertainment sector, driven by high engagement and the professionalization of streaming.
According to figures compiled from major platforms Twitch and Kick, Nigerian creators occupy six of the ten spots. The rankings are based on combined followership, measuring sustained audience loyalty rather than fleeting viral fame. While South Africa and Egypt maintain a presence, the shift in leadership toward West Africa, particularly Nigeria, is pronounced.
The overall number one position, however, is held by Moroccan streamer Ilyas El Maliki, with an impressive 847,000+ followers. Leading the Nigerian contingent is Carter Efe, Africa’s most-followed Twitch streamer with over 560,000 followers, renowned for blending street culture, comedy, and celebrity interactions.
Pioneering the scene is Shank Comics, one of Nigeria’s first major streamers to surpass 100,000 Twitch followers. He gained international recognition after participating in Kai Cenat’s Streamer University and winning a prize from MrBeast. Enzo (Rynenzo) represents the gaming-focused new generation, while Peller has capitalized on being an early adopter and brand ambassador for Kick.
