The Lagos State Police Command has vowed to unravel the mysterious disappearance of a young woman, Comfort Uwakwe, who went missing three months ago after visiting her boyfriend in the Epe area. The assurance comes amid growing public concern and distress from the victim’s family over the lack of closure in the case.
Confirming the ongoing investigation, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, stated that significant resources are being deployed to uncover the truth. The family reported that Comfort traveled to Epe in October to see her boyfriend, identified as Olajide Akeushola, and was never seen again.
According to her sister, Onyinyechi, shortly after arriving at the boyfriend’s residence, Comfort contacted a friend in distress, claiming she had been locked inside a room. All subsequent attempts to reach her failed, prompting the family to file a police report. Investigations led to the arrest of the boyfriend, who allegedly admitted to meeting Comfort on the day she vanished.
In a statement issued on Sunday via her verified X handle, SP Adebisi acknowledged the family’s anguish. “It is natural for the family to demand answers in view of the traumatic circumstances surrounding the disappearance,” she stated.
She further revealed that the Commissioner of Police has directed the special unit handling the case to provide a public update on their findings. “The Special Squad assigned to the case is a proactive unit with a strong track record of dismantling criminal networks. Significant time and resources have been committed to this investigation,” Adebisi emphasized.
The police spokesperson assured that while progress may not always be visible, investigative efforts remain relentless until a resolution is achieved. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of women and the effectiveness of law enforcement in responding to missing persons reports in Nigeria.
