Founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, Pastor Chris Okafor, has alleged that a wedding planner leaked his private remarriage plans, contributing to a wave of online attacks against him. Speaking at a Lagos press briefing on Thursday, Okafor called for stricter laws to regulate Nigeria's digital space and curb cyberbullying by bloggers and influencers.
The cleric was reacting to allegations made by Nollywood actress Doris Ogala in November 2025, which included claims of a failed marriage promise and other serious accusations. Okafor expressed dismay at how the story spread without verification or his right to reply.
“It is so sad that most of the so-called influencers we have often connived with people to come up with fabulous lies to attract traffic to their blogs,” Okafor stated. He lamented that many Nigerians have had their reputations shattered by online falsehoods with little consequence for the perpetrators.
Okafor stressed the urgent need for the National Assembly to enact laws punishing digital offenses and for cybercrime authorities to intensify enforcement. “Nigeria must find a way to safeguard its internet space,” he urged, highlighting the destructive power of unverified allegations.
His call adds to a growing demand for accountability in Nigeria's often-unregulated online ecosystem, where sensational stories can rapidly damage reputations. (NAN)
