The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled a sophisticated child trafficking and illegal surrogacy syndicate operating under the cover of a Badagry orphanage. In a coordinated operation, seven children were rescued and five principal suspects arrested, including the orphanage operator, Joy Chiedozie, known as "Madam Joy."
According to a statement by Police Spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the investigation began in November 2025 when a mother reported her six-year-old son, Samuel Honesty, missing. The case led detectives to the "Joyful Kids Orphanage" in Badagry, where six more children were found.
Babaseyi revealed that two pregnant teenagers, Tanimola Martins (18) and Favour Martins (18), were discovered at the facility. They confessed to being recruited to carry pregnancies with the intention of selling their babies for ₦1.5 million each to pre-arranged buyers.
The principal suspect, Madam Joy, allegedly confessed to purchasing the abducted Samuel Honesty for ₦1.5 million. The orphanage driver, Yusuf Adebowale (31), acted as an uncertified surrogate agent, facilitating illegal surrogacy arrangements.
The six other rescued children have been handed over to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs for protective custody and family tracing. Samuel Honesty has been happily reunited with his mother. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the trafficking network, including a buyer known as Mr. Emmanuel and a financier named Kelly.
