Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have eliminated a high-ranking Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) commander and thwarted multiple terror attacks in coordinated operations across Borno State. The military confirmed the breakthrough in a statement on Saturday.
The force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, disclosed that intelligence confirmed the killing of “Julaibib, a top ISWAP commander operating within the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle, during an encounter around Kimba, Damboa LGA of Borno State on 30 January 2026.”
The statement noted that “The elimination of the terrorist leader has thrown ISWAP elements in the area into disarray, with several fighters reportedly neutralised during the operation. This impressive development represents a major blow to the command and control structure of ISWAP in the region.”
In a separate ambush between Ngazalgana and Lamusheri communities, troops supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force neutralised three terrorists, recovering two AK-47 rifles. Another operation in Tsokorok, Gwoza LGA, on January 29 saw one terrorist killed and two motorcycles recovered, with no military casualties.
The Joint Task Force also reported success in Adamawa State, where troops foiled an armed robbery in Barama community, Mubi North LGA, arresting two suspects and recovering weapons, laptops, and phones. The suspects were handed to the police.
Additionally, a patrol along the Amtasa–Washim axis in Hong LGA on January 28 led to troops engaging terrorists, rescuing an abducted woman, and recovering an AK-47 rifle, an SMG rifle, and 42 rounds of ammunition.
The military reiterated its commitment to protecting lives, dismantling terrorist networks, and restoring lasting peace across the North-East.
