The Ogun State Police Command has detained the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the road crash that conveyed former world boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred on Monday around Danco axis of the expressway and resulted in the death of two occupants of the vehicle. Police sources identified the driver as Kayode Adeniyi, a 47-year-old member of Anthony Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team. The incident was reported by Punch.
A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Adeniyi had worked with the boxer’s logistics team for a long period.
“Kayode Adeniyi, 47, is a long-time member of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team,” the source said.
Another source close to Joshua’s family also confirmed that the driver is a Nigerian and sustained serious injuries following the crash.
“We learnt he was in a coma shortly after the incident. He is a Nigerian. His logistics are always arranged whenever he is in the country,” the source disclosed.

Confirming the driver’s detention, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that investigations were ongoing.
“The driver of the Lexus SUV in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case is currently in custody. Investigations are ongoing,” he said.
It was gathered that the Lexus SUV, with registration number KRD 850 HN, collided with a stationary truck while conveying the renowned boxer and two of his friends. The deceased victims were later identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu (36), a Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina (36), a British citizen.
Meanwhile, the Lagos and Ogun State governments announced on Wednesday that Anthony Joshua had been discharged from the hospital after receiving medical care. This was disclosed in a joint statement signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho.
The statement confirmed that Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their last respects to the deceased, whose bodies were being prepared for repatriation.
The two state governments expressed condolences to the families of the victims and appreciated members of the public for their prayers and support. They also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support and commended the medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism.
