Former Nigerian lawmaker Shehu Sani has urged Africans to focus on rebuilding their countries following the recent visa restrictions imposed by the United States. Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, made the call on his verified X handle on Wednesday, December 16.
The US recently added 15 African nations, including Nigeria, to a list of countries facing partial travel restrictions, citing security and documentation concerns. In his post, Sani criticised the move, describing it as an exclusion of Black Africans and Caribbean nationals while no Arab countries were included.
“They said the first visa ban focused on those who engage in acts of religious persecution, and many jubilated on social media. The second visa restriction is for everyone and Nigeria is listed among 23 others,” Sani wrote. He added, “The message is very clear. Third World migrants are not welcomed. Stay back and build your country or deal with your problems.”
