Fast-rising Afrobeats sensation Folarin Odunlami, popularly known as Fola, has apologised to fans after his headline performance at the Mainland Block Party in Lagos was cut short due to safety issues. The Monday, December 15, event saw an unexpectedly large turnout, exceeding the venue’s approved capacity and prompting organisers to halt the concert.
According to reports from attendees and event organisers, overcrowding led to uncontrollable crowds, raising serious safety concerns. Some ticket holders were reportedly denied entry despite purchasing tickets in advance. Fola performed briefly before leaving the stage, addressing fans the following day on his X handle.
“My people, I’m really sorry about how last night went,” Fola wrote. He also expressed concern for fans who sustained injuries, stressing that safety must always come first. “People were hurt, and that should never happen. I had to stop the show because safety comes before anything else,” he added.

Dangbana Republik, Fola’s record label, also released a statement acknowledging lapses in crowd management and confirming that the venue had exceeded capacity. “The venue capacity was exceeded, resulting in unsafe conditions that should never have happened,” the label said. It further noted that immediate action was taken to protect fans and discussions are ongoing with organisers to make amends.
The disruption sparked widespread backlash on social media, with fans criticising both the organisers and the artist’s team for poor planning. Fola assured fans that their concerns had been heard and that steps were being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
