Illegal and Unconstitutional’ — PDP Bauchi Rejects Wike’s ‘National Leader’ Title

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has declared that referring to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as the party’s “national leader” is unconstitutional, illegal, and misleading.

The party also dismissed threats allegedly issued by Wike’s loyalists to forcefully vacate PDP state offices, describing such actions as null, void, and of no legal effect.

Addressing journalists in Bauchi, the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Dayyabu Chiroma, said Wike had already been expelled from the party and therefore lacked any authority to claim leadership or issue directives on behalf of the PDP.

“Referring to Wike as the national leader of the PDP is illegal and unconstitutional. He has been expelled and cannot exercise powers he does not lawfully possess,” Chiroma said.

He condemned what he described as intimidation tactics and reckless statements by individuals loyal to the former Rivers State governor, warning that such rhetoric could create unnecessary tension.

“Thinly veiled threats and attempts to assign blame for hypothetical violence betray desperation and are wholly irresponsible,” he added.

Chiroma emphasized that the Bauchi PDP remains a law-abiding political organization committed to peace, democratic engagement, and adherence to the rule of law. He said the party would not be intimidated by what he called “alarmist rhetoric” designed to manufacture a false sense of crisis.

Reacting to alleged eviction directives ordering party members to vacate PDP secretariats across Bauchi State, the party spokesman said such orders had no legal standing.

“By what authority do impostors issue eviction notices over party property they neither control nor administer?” he asked.

Chiroma further dismissed attempts to form a splinter faction loyal to Wike in the state, describing it as illegal and contrary to the PDP constitution.

He insisted that only constitutionally recognized party organs could make binding decisions and urged party members to remain calm and united amid the ongoing internal dispute.
