A community leader in Eruku, a town in Kwara State, has said that the presence of soldiers in the area has not brought much improvement to security. The community has been dealing with repeated attacks, including the recent kidnapping of about 38 worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church.
According to a report by Channels Television on Tuesday 2 December, 2025, the community leader, Shola Daniel, spoke during an interview on the programme The Morning Brief. He explained that many residents still live in fear despite seeing military personnel in the town.

He said the situation has remained difficult because farmers still have to go to their farms daily, even though they are afraid something might happen. Daniel added that the soldiers told community members that they were not instructed to go into the bush, which is where most of the attacks happen.
Daniel questioned how effective the soldiers would even be if they were asked to follow farmers into the bush, since the bandits involved in the attacks are heavily armed. He said this has left the community worried about their safety.
He called on authorities to review their security strategy and take stronger action to protect the people of Eruku from further attacks.
