The Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation into viral allegations that a hotel in Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area, is being used for kidnapping and organ harvesting.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has ordered a thorough probe into the claims circulating in a viral video that surfaced online earlier in the day.
The report, first published by The Guardian, revealed that the footage showed the hotel’s exterior and a photograph of its owner, alleging that unsuspecting guests were kidnapped and had their organs harvested. The narrator of the video also warned the public to avoid the establishment.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered an in-depth investigation into a viral video in which a yet-to-be-identified young man accused the owner of H&C Hotel, Irete, Mr. Allwell Onyedikachi Mmaduabuchi, of being involved in kidnapping and organ harvesting in the state,” Okoye said.
He confirmed that both the hotel owner and the individual who made the allegations have been invited by the police for questioning. “The Command will ensure a transparent investigation, and the findings will be made public upon conclusion,” he added.
The police also appealed to residents to remain calm while the case is investigated, assuring the public of the command’s commitment to justice, transparency, and public safety.
Meanwhile, security experts have commended the swift response of the Imo State Police, emphasizing the importance of verifying viral claims before spreading panic.
This development comes days after 182 newly trained police constables were deployed to strengthen the state’s policing structure under the supervision of CP Danjuma.
