Among the victims was corps member Edema Elohor Jennifer (AN/24C/0626), who was brutally assaulted during the raid. In a distressing video that went viral, Jennifer was reportedly beaten, stripped, left bleeding, and subjected to sexually degrading threats, despite presenting her NYSC identification and uniform.

According to the NYSC, the assault was “unwarranted,” “unacceptable,” and “dehumanising,” with a strong call for security agencies to ensure accountability and protect corps members. Jennifer has since stepped forward to recount her ordeal, revealing the psychological and physical trauma she endured during the violent intrusion.

Eyewitnesses report that the vigilantes did not provide any formal explanation or proof of wrongdoing. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with calls for stricter regulation of vigilante groups and better protection of NYSC members across the country.

Security experts argue that unchecked vigilante actions pose a severe threat to public safety and undermine the rule of law, especially when innocent citizens are targeted without evidence. The NYSC is working with local authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

This event raises serious questions about the role of vigilante groups in Nigeria, their training, accountability, and the protection of individuals, particularly young citizens serving their country through the NYSC program.
