A Lagos resident has alleged that he was brutally extorted by police officers for possessing Meta glasses in his car.
According to a detailed account shared on social media, the incident occurred around 9:30 pm on August 19, near the Abraham Adesanya traffic light in Lagos. The man, who requested anonymity, said he was returning from Abijo when officers stopped him at a road under construction and ordered him to step out of his vehicle.

He stated that during a search, the officers found his Meta glasses, which allegedly led to the ordeal. “I was told to meet a commander who claimed to be from the ‘CP Tactical Squad,’ a unit I’ve never heard of,” he recounted.
The victim alleged that he was asked to surrender his phone and car keys before being ordered into a commercial bus. Fearing a possible kidnap, he initially refused. He claims that the officers then beat him with baseball bats, handcuffed him tightly for hours, and detained him with others who had also been arrested for minor issues.

According to the man, the officers demanded a bribe of N1.5 million for his release but later settled for N250,000. “They took me to a POS operator and forced me to withdraw the money,” he alleged. He also claimed he was forced to buy mobile data for one officer and was threatened with maggot-infested food if he didn’t cooperate.
“This ordeal was purely over an accessory,” he wrote. “I wasn’t even wearing the glasses at the time; they searched my car and put me through trauma for hours.”
The incident has sparked widespread outrage online, with calls for the Lagos State Police Command to investigate and take action against officers involved in extortion and harassment of citizens.
