Afrobeats singer Reekado Banks has opened up for the first time in years about his controversial public fallout with global music icon Wizkid, describing the incident as painful but ultimately healing.
In a new podcast interview, Reekado reflected on the 2020 social media storm that erupted after Wizkid harshly criticized him for promoting their collaborative single Omo Olomo during the height of the #EndSARS protests. At the time, Wizkid labeled Reekado a “fool” and a “clout animal,” sparking massive industry backlash and fan wars online.
Reekado, born Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, now admits the experience deeply affected him. “It wasn’t the nicest, especially considering I didn’t want to put the music out,” he revealed. “I urged my management not to, but they insisted.”
The artist said he regrets releasing the track during such a sensitive time and has since learned to follow his instincts over external pressures. “These days, there’s hardly anything I’m convinced to do that I don’t truly want to,” he explained.
In a surprising twist, Reekado shared that he and Wizkid have since reconciled. The Easy (Jeje) crooner said Wizkid recently visited his restaurant where they discussed the past incident at length. According to Reekado, Wizkid sincerely apologized and expressed regret over his actions.
“He feels sorry about how things went down. It’s good now, no hard feelings,” Reekado added, signaling that their bond has been restored.
Interestingly, the reconciliation also covered Wizkid’s past social media fallout with music executive Don Jazzy, who mentored Reekado during his Mavin Records days. Both artists reportedly found common ground in their shared experiences and the recent personal losses of their mothers.
The heartfelt conversation between the two marks a moment of closure, maturity, and growth in Nigeria’s vibrant music industry—an industry often shaped as much by rivalry as by collaboration.
As fans celebrate this truce, it offers hope for future collaborations and sets a new tone for conflict resolution in the entertainment space.
