In a significant breakthrough in the fight against insurgency, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), with aerial support from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), have eliminated a notorious Boko Haram commander, Mallam Jidda, alongside dozens of terrorists in coordinated offensives across Borno and Yobe states.

According to a statement by Captain Rueben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for OPHK, the operation took place on June 9, 2025, in Nggazalgana, a community in Gujba Local Council of Yobe State. Jidda, identified as the Ameer of Ngorgore and Malumtib hideouts in the Timbuktu Triangle of Sambisa Forest, was killed during an intense, hour-long battle.
“The insurgents were overwhelmed with superior firepower, leading to the death of their commander, while others escaped with serious injuries,” Kovangiya stated.

He also reported that in a follow-up operation in Malam Fatori, located in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, several other terrorists were neutralized, and a large cache of weapons was recovered.
Among the items recovered were AK-47 rifles, magazines, rocket-propelled gun tubes, motorcycles, hand grenades, communication radios, and a significant amount of ammunition. The military confirmed that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to dislodge remaining terror elements from the North-East.
“OPHK remains committed to restoring lasting peace in the region and ensuring the safety of citizens,” Kovangiya added.

The success of this offensive marks another victory for Nigeria’s security forces in their persistent campaign to eliminate Boko Haram and other terrorist factions in the region.
