The Oyo State House of Assembly has condemned the tragic killing of a secondary school student by a police stray bullet in Ibadan, demanding immediate justice for the victim who was heading to a WAEC exam.
During Tuesday's plenary, Deputy Leader Olasunkanmi Babalola raised the May 20 incident under Matters of Urgent Public Importance, revealing: "A police officer pursuing a suspect along Gbagi Market Road discharged live ammunition, killing the student enroute to his examination center."
Lawmakers unanimously called for:
Immediate investigation by the Commissioner of Police
Prosecution of the involved officer
Psychological/financial support for the bereaved family
Statewide awareness campaign on citizens' rights

The House resolution stated: "This call aims to bring the perpetrator to justice and provide succor to the deceased's family." An 8-man committee led by the Deputy Speaker will meet with police authorities on Thursday to monitor the case.
