The Nigerian Female Students Coalition (NFSC), a nationwide student body representing female students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria, has strongly condemned the bribery allegations against former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili.
The accusation, made by one Sandra Duru (popularly known as Prof Mgbeke), claims that Ezekwesili supported Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s sexual harassment claims against Senate President Godswill Akpabio in exchange for bribes. The NFSC called the claims a “reprehensible attempt to distort the facts.”
In a statement issued by Comrade Grace Williams, the NFSC National Secretary, the group described Ezekwesili’s support for Senator Natasha as an act of solidarity and courage.
“This incident highlights how women are continuously victimized and disrespected in Nigeria. Sandra Duru has overstepped by trying to malign the image of Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, who stood up for a woman in distress,” the statement read.
NFSC demanded the reinstatement of Senator Natasha to the Senate and called on Senate President Akpabio to handle the matter respectfully. The group also announced plans to pursue Sandra Duru’s deportation from the USA to face legal consequences.
The coalition urged Nigerians to support women facing harassment and foster a society where women can thrive without fear.
