The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has stepped up enforcement across critical congestion points, arresting 10 miscreants and impounding 235 vehicles for a range of traffic and environmental offenses.
The operation, led by LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki, targeted Oyingbo, Iddo, Eja-Lonibu, Adeniji Adele Bridge, Sabo, Jibowu Inter-State Terminal, and Oshodi—hotspots notorious for indiscriminate parking and obstruction.
In a statement, LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq reported that the impounded vehicles included 38 private cars, 156 painted Volkswagen “Danfo” buses, 19 minibuses/tricycles, five haulage trucks, and 17 inter-state passenger buses, all seized under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

“Offences ranged from unlawful encroachment upon pedestrian walkways to the establishment of illegal terminals and reckless disregard for traffic regulations,” Taofiq said.
A particularly egregious case saw five articulated trucks offloading livestock—rams, cows, and abattoir waste—on the Adeniji Adele Bridge, endangering both public safety and the structure’s integrity. The drivers involved now face imminent judicial proceedings.
The enforcement was carried out at the direction of Special Adviser on Transportation Sola Giwa, under a strict zero-tolerance mandate. Taofiq emphasised that:
“All impounded vehicles will be promptly arraigned before the Lagos State mobile court. The era of impunity on our roads is over.”
Commuter groups have applauded the blitz but called for sustained public education and complementary infrastructure measures—such as designated loading bays—to ensure lasting relief from traffic chaos.
