In a coordinated security operation, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested 127 foreign nationals in Kano State for involvement in cybercrimes and illegal migration activities. This development coincides with the return of 111 stranded Nigerians from Niamey, Niger Republic, facilitated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
According to a report shared via NEMA’s official X handle, the agency received the voluntary returnees at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on May 26, 2025, at 7:20 p.m. The group included 87 adult males, eight male children, eight adult females, and eight female children. They were later transported to Chilla Hotel for profiling and reintegration processes on May 27.

Meanwhile, the NIS operation in the Hotoro Ring Road area of Nasarawa Local Government Council, Kano, led to the arrest of 206 individuals, including 86 Nigeriens, 41 Chadians, and 80 Nigerians. Of the total, 127 were foreign nationals aged between 25 and 35 years, many of whom lacked proper documentation or residence permits.
Kano State Immigration Comptroller Kabir Danja revealed that the arrests were based on credible intelligence pointing to a hideout where suspects were allegedly defrauding innocent Nigerians. “Most of the arrested foreign nationals entered through unauthorized routes and had no valid travel documents,” he stated.
The Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has directed that the foreign nationals be repatriated after investigations are concluded. The Nigerian suspects have already been handed over to police authorities.
This dual development showcases Nigeria’s intensified focus on border control and migrant reintegration in response to regional instability and rising cybercrime.
