In a major breakthrough, the Enugu State Police Command has rescued 21 kidnapped victims and neutralized one suspect in a series of coordinated operations across the state between May 20 and 23, 2025.

According to police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe, a raid by Okpuje Division operatives alongside Neighbourhood Watch, Forest Guards, and local hunters at the Enugu-Kogi border led to the rescue of eight victims and the death of one armed suspect after a shootout.
Another operation in Uvuru-Ukpata forest, Uzo-Uwani Council, led to the rescue of nine victims who were kidnapped along the Olo-Umulokpa Road.

In Udi Council, a robbery attempt was foiled at Ekochin Layout on May 22, where police recovered a firearm and cartridge. On the same day, Udenu Division rescued two kidnap victims abducted on May 16 in Ezimo, while Uwani Division recovered a stolen Toyota Sienna and freed a female victim in Gariki, Awkunanaw.

Another rescue took place on May 20, where a man abducted and tied up in an uncompleted building in Akwuke-Awkunanaw was found after his captors extorted ₦30,000 from his relatives. One suspect was arrested.
