Edo Police arrest driver for allegedly assaulting governor aide's teenage daughter


The Edo State Police Command has arrested Mohammed Ihuenuma, a 50-year-old driver to a Special Adviser to Governor Monday Okpebholo, for allegedly sexually assaulting the governor’s aide’s 15-year-old daughter.

The arrest was confirmed by the Command's Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, on Thursday in Benin City. He stated that investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion.

The victim’s father reportedly alerted the authorities after repeated inappropriate contact by the suspect, who is said to have taken advantage of his routine visits to the home to molest the teenager. According to reports, the girl confided in her mother after enduring several incidents, leading to the father’s decision to involve the police.

    “This kind of behavior is unacceptable. We urge families to report any case of rape or indecent assault promptly,” Yamu stated. He emphasized the state’s commitment to addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV), with zero tolerance for any abuse against minors.

    The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has pledged swift and thorough prosecution to ensure justice for the young girl.
