The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the recent wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) poses no threat to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second-term bid in 2026.

In an exclusive statement made on Wednesday, the PDP Chairman in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, described the movement of party members to the opposition as “a storm in a teacup,” asserting that Adeleke remains overwhelmingly popular across the state.

Over the past month, several notable figures have left the PDP. Among them is Wole Oke, the current representative of Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, who officially joined the APC. Former Senator Felix Ogunwale, who represented Osun Central from 2003 to 2007, also defected, taking several supporters with him.

These high-profile exits have sparked concern within PDP ranks, as some analysts speculate the defections could weaken Adeleke’s chances at the polls. Adding fuel to the political tension, the three PDP senators from Osun have publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, a move interpreted as a rift within the party.

However, Bisi remains unfazed. Speaking to journalists, he said, “The defections in Osun are not a serious matter. If we talk about real defection, we refer to situations like the Delta State governor and his entire PDP structure moving to the APC. That’s significant. What we have here is just noise.”

He further defended Adeleke’s performance in office, emphasizing his administration’s achievements in infrastructure development and social programs. According to Bisi, these tangible contributions will secure the governor another term.

“Adeleke is delivering good governance. The people are seeing the results and will reward him in 2026,” he concluded.

Despite mounting pressure, the PDP leadership insists that grassroots support for Adeleke remains strong and that defections will not derail their political momentum in Osun State.
