The convicts—Ojo Tope, Danilola Christopher, Joshua Adegoke, Aderopo Temitope, and Oyedele Oluwatobi—were found guilty of a violent August 2021 robbery in Ado-Ekiti, where they killed a night guard, Joseph Blessing, while stealing money, laptops, and phones.

Justice O.O. Olatawura ruled that the prosecution, led by DPP Julius Ajibare, proved the case beyond doubt with four witnesses and 13 exhibits. The defendants, represented by Adeyinka Opaleke, testified but called no additional witnesses.

The court sentenced them to death by hanging for armed robbery and murder and 21 years’ imprisonment for conspiracy. This landmark judgment reinforces Ekiti’s tough stance on violent crimes.
