The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended six individuals for allegedly exploiting sick persons by using them to solicit alms from the public. The suspects—Doris Basil (28), Peter Ezedike (38), Susan Monday (27), Ogechi Okoro (27), Amarachi Okoro (17), and Chika Okoro (17)—were arrested following credible intelligence.

According to the police, the suspects recruited vulnerable individuals with health challenges and stationed them at various locations to beg for alms, collecting the proceeds for personal gain. This act not only exploits the sick but also undermines public trust and compassion.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, condemned the act, emphasizing the command’s commitment to protecting the rights of vulnerable individuals and eradicating such exploitative practices. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
