Israeli airstrike kills Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Aqil and seven others in Beirut, escalating tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border.

An Israeli airstrike targeted a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut, Lebanon, on Friday, killing eight people, including a top military leader, Ibrahim Aqil.

The Lebanese health ministry reported that 59 people were also wounded in the attack. Israel confirmed it conducted a “targeted strike,” marking the third attack on Beirut's southern suburbs since the Israel-Hamas war began on October 7.

Ibrahim Aqil, the commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan unit, was confirmed dead by a source close to the group, although Hezbollah has not officially commented. 

The United States had previously offered a $7 million reward for information on Aqil, citing his involvement in the 1983 bombing of the US embassy in Beirut. 

This escalation signals a shift in the ongoing war, with increasing focus on Hezbollah along the Israel-Lebanon border.
