The suspect, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, along with 12 other inmates of Eritrean nationality, reportedly managed to break out of the police station where they were being detained.
The escape occurred early Tuesday morning, as the inmates cut through the wire mesh of their cell and scaled the perimeter wall.
The incident was discovered when breakfast was being served to the detainees.

Acting Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli, revealed that disciplinary actions had been taken against eight officers, including the area and station commanders, as well as the officers who were on duty at the time of the escape.
Masengeli indicated that the escape was likely facilitated by insiders, given that the station was adequately staffed with guards.
Khalusha, who is 33 years old, was arrested in July after ten bodies and several dismembered body parts were found wrapped in plastic sacks in the Kware area of Nairobi. He had been detained after a court granted detectives seven additional days to investigate his alleged crimes before formally charging him.

The case took a dark turn when police reported that Khalusha had confessed to killing 42 women, including his wife. The gruesome discovery of the bodies came after relatives of a missing woman claimed to have had a dream in which she directed them to search in a quarry, leading them to the macabre find.
As authorities continue to search for Khalusha and the other escapees, the police station from which they fled has been cordoned off with crime scene tape, and senior officers have visited the site. The escape has raised serious concerns about the security and management of high-profile suspects in custody.
