A 45-year-old man, Aduragbemi Idowu, has been ordered by an
Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court remanded to be kept in Ilesa Prison for
allegedly assaulting a four-year-old girl with a hot pressing iron.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Aishat Oloyade, gave the remand order
after she told the defence counsel to put in a formal bail application for his
client, NAN reports.
The magistrate adjourned the case till April 4 for hearing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that
the defendant committed the offence sometimes in March at about 4:30 pm at
Awosuru area of Osogbo.
Abiodun said the defendant used a hot pressing iron to
assault the minor (name withheld) for eating the rice kept in a plate.
He said the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal
Code, Vol.11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The defence counsel, Mr Ago Emmanuel, had prayed the court
to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, a plea which was turned
down.
