Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted major consignments of synthetic cannabis (Colorado), opioids, and pharmaceutical illicit drugs uniquely concealed inside loaves of bread, commercial music speakers, and consolidated import cargo across several states.
In Lagos, NDLEA officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) intercepted a UK-bound cargo containing 27 parcels of Colorado weighing 32.20kg.
Real estate agent Abideen Jide Salami was arrested on September 9 after presenting a secret collection code relayed by his UK-based brother.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of 44-year-old Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri, who was expecting a second UK shipment weighing 12.25kg.
At Lagos motor parks, agents seized music speakers stuffed with Colorado destined for Liberia via Côte d’Ivoire, arresting tour agent Ifeanyi Augustine and owner Obasi Ugochuckwu, while another suspect, Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry, was caught attempting to ship 2.1kg of Colos to Kano.
The crackdown extended across northern and southern Nigeria with massive seizures.
In Kano State, operatives raided Sabon Gari to arrest 20-year-old Saidu Adamu with 785,000 capsules of pregabalin weighing 669.425kg, while a stop-and-search along the Zaria-Kano Road caught 28-year-old Habibu Sabitu transporting 1,700 diazepam tablets stuffed inside loaves of bread.
In Jos, Plateau State, 51-year-old Chinedu Uzor was nabbed at Katako Market with 157,100 tramadol capsules. Meanwhile, in Delta State, officers confiscated pentazocine injections, codeine, and Molly hidden inside sound systems.
In anti-narcotics field operations, NDLEA officers destroyed over 4,832kg of skunk across cannabis farms in Edo State's Usen, Igwe-Oke, and Ogboha forests, arresting 39-year-old Sunday Segun.
In Akure, Ondo State, 58-year-old Paul Ogbuwala was caught with 186kg of skunk in a car boot heading for Jos, while female suspect Hannah Michael was arrested in Kaduna with 369.6kg of cannabis.
In Bayelsa, four suspects, including 70-year-old Godwoman Gboriye, were apprehended in Yenagoa with 876kg of cannabis.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) commended the commands and urged officers to maintain a tight squeeze on drug trafficking networks nationwide.
