Fresh terror has gripped Plateau State after armed attackers invaded four communities in Mangu Local Government Area over a three-day period, killing four residents—including a 55-year-old man who was beheaded—and leaving another severely injured.
According to a detailed press statement issued on Sunday by Tubwot Joël, Director of Public Affairs for the Mwaghavul Development Association, on behalf of Mwaghavul Youth Movement President Comrade Kyesmang Jonathan Yusuf, the violence spanned Kinat, Kikyau, Larkas, and Ntul communities.
The latest incident occurred on the night of September 12, 2026, in Kinat, where 29-year-old Katbam Titus was gunned down.
Shockingly, the Kinat assault took place just hours after the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division, Nigerian Army, held a high-level peace engagement with Mwaghavul and Fulani leaders in Mangu, pledging that the military would clamp down on any group breaking the peace.
The youth movement linked the Kinat killing to three horrific incidents in preceding days across Mangu LGA. On Friday, September 11, 55-year-old Geoffrey Gumut was beheaded in Kikyau, Mangu Halle District, with his head remaining unrecovered.
In Ntul, Mr. Pius Dachen (50) and Mr. Zadok Irmiya (25) were brutally murdered, while 45-year-old Danjuma Kyesle sustained severe machete wounds in Larkas, Panyam District, where security personnel were allegedly stationed nearby during the attack.
Distraught by the recurring killings, the Mwaghavul Youth Movement called on the Federal Government, the Plateau State Government, and military authorities to conduct transparent, independent investigations and fulfill their promises to protect vulnerable populations.
The group urged the GOC to demonstrate his commitment to justice by tracking down, arresting, and prosecuting the armed assailants responsible for keeping host communities in a perpetual state of fear.
