The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned that it may reactivate its suspended nationwide strike "without any further notice" if the Federal Government and state authorities fail to resolve lingering welfare issues and salary arrears.
Following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the University of Abuja, ASUU President Christopher Piwuna issued a statement criticizing the incomplete implementation of the December 2025 agreement.
While acknowledging the payment of four out of 7.5 months of withheld salaries by the federal government, ASUU demanded the immediate release of the remaining 3.5 months alongside billions of naira in unremitted pension and cooperative deductions.
Although several states have commenced implementation, the union warned lagging state governments to take immediate action to avoid shutting down public universities nationwide.
