Afrobeats superstar Davido is trending globally after hijacking the international stage to stage a powerful, silent protest against the escalating security crisis in Nigeria.
The trend went viral after Davido performed at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles wearing a highly symbolic, custom-made black leather jacket.
The back of the outfit bore a stark, handwritten message: “Bring Them Home,” while the front was adorned with green, circular buttons featuring the individual names of the 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers recently abducted by armed bandits in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
To make the statement even more heartbreakingly precise, the names of the victims still held in captivity were written in white, while those who had tragically lost their lives during the ordeal were written in red.
The jacket has dominated online trends, earning widespread applause from citizens and political figures, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, who lauded the singer for using his global platform to demand urgent rescue actions.
By turning a major pre-tournament sporting event into a human rights petition, Davido successfully forced international media attention onto the domestic security challenges plaguing parts of Nigeria.
