The Anambra State Police Command has taken a decisive step against sexual violence by arraigning five suspects before a Special Court in Awka.
The cases, which follow extensive investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), involve harrowing accounts of incest, child defilement, and physical abuse across various locations in the state.
Among those facing trial is a middle-aged father accused of having a long-term sexual affair with his daughter, allegedly infecting her with a serious viral disease.
Another case involves 46-year-old Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, who reportedly began an incestuous relationship with a victim when she was 17; the matter was uncovered after she tested HIV positive.
Other suspects include a security guard who allegedly attacked a 16-year-old in an uncompleted building and a barber accused of luring an 11-year-old into his shop.
State Police Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, noted that Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu has described these acts as "heinous and unacceptable."
According to Qubes Magazine, the Command has reinforced its Gender Unit to ensure a zero-tolerance policy toward the abuse of vulnerable persons.
The police further detailed the arrest of Eucharia Ezenwanne, who allegedly used wires to inflict severe injuries on two young children she claimed to have adopted.
