Tragedy struck in Minna, Niger State, as unidentified assailants brutally murdered a 30-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator, Aliyu Musa, in his residence early Monday morning, rejecting offers of money and reportedly declaring their sole intent was to take his life.
According to Punch Metro, the attackers forced their way into Musa's home in the "T Mama" area of the state capital around 3 a.m.
Eyewitness reports indicate that despite pleas from the victim and his wife, and even offers of large sums of money, the assailants were relentless, allegedly stating, "We are here just to kill you."
Musa was first stabbed in the stomach before being repeatedly attacked with a machete.
His cries for help alerted neighbours who rushed to the scene, but the attackers managed to flee.
The victim was initially taken to the Tudun-Wada Police Station before being rushed to the Minna General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased's elder brother, Malam Ibrahim Kolo, confirmed the heartbreaking incident to PUNCH Metro, saying the remains of his sibling were buried at the Muslim burial ground by 10 a.m. on Monday.
"It is very sad and pathetic. I believe my brother's killers will surely be arrested and brought to justice," Kolo said.
Niger State Police Command spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the attack on Tuesday, providing additional details.
He stated: "On March 2026, at about 3 a.m., we received a report of a suspected culpable homicide around the Mandela area of Minna.
Our patrol team from Tudun-Wada Division moved to the scene, but the assailants had already escaped."
Abiodun identified the victim as Aliyu Musa, 34 years old, noting that examination revealed he was shot in the chest in addition to sustaining a machete cut to the head.
Contrary to initial reports, the police spokesman confirmed a firearm was used.
He added that nothing was stolen from the house, and exhibits recovered include an iron cutter used to gain entry through the window and a cutlass.
Police investigation is ongoing, and efforts to apprehend the attackers are underway.
