A wave of anxiety has gripped the family of 42-year-old Kehinde Albert, who has been missing since February 27 after disappearing from the General Hospital in Gbagada, Lagos.
The family, through the missing man's elder brother, Olatunde, has appealed to the public for help in locating him.
According to Punch Metro, Kehinde was at the hospital preparing to begin a rehabilitation programme for alcoholism, which required preliminary medical tests.
Olatunde explained that he brought Kehinde and his twin brother, Taiwo, to the hospital on February 26.
"On Thursday, February 26, I took him to the hospital with his twin brother because we wanted to enrol him in a rehabilitation programme for his alcoholism.
We were told to carry out some medical tests on him," Olatunde said during a telephone interview.
The situation took a turn when Kehinde suddenly developed seizures and convulsions at the hospital and was subsequently admitted for treatment.
He appeared to stabilise, and the following day, Olatunde left to purchase prescribed medication, leaving Kehinde in his twin brother's care.
However, Olatunde later found Taiwo on the street and grew worried.
When he returned to the hospital to inquire, he was given a conflicting account.
Hospital staff claimed that Kehinde had sneaked out of the premises on Friday evening around 8 p.m.
When contacted, the Medical Director of the General Hospital, Gbagola, Dr Olusegun Babafemi, provided the hospital's perspective.
He stated that Kehinde was properly discharged after he and his twin brother became agitated and insisted on leaving. Dr. Babafemi explained that after Kehinde was resuscitated from a near-collapse, his brother demanded they leave against medical advice.
They were allegedly restrained by security after attempting to leave without authorization.
"They were told that the hospital is not a prison and that if they wanted to go, they could sign that they wished to leave.
However, they refused to sign and insisted they just wanted to go," Babafemi said.
He added that the hospital even assisted them financially to complete a registration payment before they were discharged.
About two hours later, Taiwo returned alone, saying he could not find his brother.
The hospital has circulated Kehinde's photograph on its internal platforms. Olatunde, however, remains desperate, saying, "We have already lost our mother, and Kehinde is 42 years old.
We need all the help we can get to find him."
